Obituary of JOHN DAG BURGESS The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, January 15, 1993 John Dag Burgess, 95, of Courtland, a retired farmer, died Jan. 14, 1993, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Burgess was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was the oldest member of Vincent's Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include five nieces, Helen Burgess and Swann Bradshaw, both of Courtland, Frances B. Francis of Hampton, Ann B. Davis of Chester and Carolyn Arnsberger of Youngstown, Ohio; and eight nephews, Calvin Burgess and George Burgess Jr., both of Franklin, James W. "Bill" Burgess, Earl W. Burgess and McCoy Burgess, all of Sedley, Wayne T. Burgess Sr. of Courtland, Emerson Burgess of Capron and Raymond N. Burgess of Nashville, Tenn. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Vincent's Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Thomas G. Lee. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall of the church after the funeral. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
