Obituary of Roger Harold Britt ROGER HAROLD BRITT Virginian Pilot 1 Nov 2002 p B9 Roger Harold Britt, 71, passed away at his home Oct. 30, 2002, surrounded by his family, friends and beloved fiancee LaRue Brittle. Born March 1, 1931 in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Roger Pryor Britt and Ruby Fowler Britt. He joined the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Division and most proud of having earned his wings on June 6, 1952. "Britt" had a love for music that carried him from California across the U.S. playing the "Doghouse Bass" with his band, Harold Britt and the Virginia Playboys. He was a member of Beaverdam Sportsman's Club for 34 years, having served as president on three different occasions, a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141, a former member of Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, retired from Spencer Brothers after 17 years, and was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. His love for music, racing, travel and life in general shined through in his hearty laugh and outgoing personality. He never met a stranger. Besides his fiancee, LaRue, Harold is survived by his stepson, Aubrey C. Edwards Jr. and wife Dianne; step granddaughter, Ashlee; numerous cousins who were more like brothers and sisters; and a host of cherished friends. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield. Interment will follow in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni.
