Obituary of John Mills Britt Jr. JOHN MILLS BRITT JR The Tidewater News - 12-23-2004 FRANKLIN - John Mills Jr., M.D. died at his home on Dec. 19. Dr. Britt, 69, was a native of Boykins, and was the only son of the late John Mills and Patience Morre Britt. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He then graduated from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his surgical residency training at Norfolk General Hospital. He practiced general sugery in Franklin for 35 years and served as chief of surgery and president of the medical staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Virginia Surgical Society, the Tri-County Medical Society and a siplomat of the American Board of Surgery. He was dedicated to his profession and his patients and loved and respected the art of medicine. Dr. Britt was a longtime member of the High Street United Methodist Church and served in a variety of offices, including chariman of the board. He was an enthisiastic hunter and fisherman and a crack shot with a shortgum, rifle or muzzle loader. He was a director of the Indiantown Hunter Club. He provided land for a muzzle loading firing range for Virginia and North Carolina shooters in the North-South Skirmish Assiciation. Her served as a captain in the U.S. Army Midical Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a family man, an involved father and proud of his two sons. Survivors includ his wife of 43 years, Ann Cooke Britt; his sons, John Mills Britt, III and wife Venus Britt of Fairfax and their daughters, Caroline and Elizabeth; and his son, Daivd Moore Britt and wife Dr. Rebecca Britt of Norfolk and their son, Charles. A funeral was held Dec. 22 in High Street United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Linda Alvis and Ben Duffey officiating. Interment followed in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins. The family received friends at Wright Funeral Home Dec. 21. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to High Street United Methodist Church, 301 W.
