Obituary of James Franklin Bracey Jr. JAMES FRANKLIN BRACEY JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 8, 2003 James F. Bracey Jr. FRANKLIN - James F. Bracey Jr. died peacefully on July 5, 2003, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late James F. Bracey Sr. and Cora Lou Carr. In February 1936, after his father had surgery, James Jr. promised to take care of him as long as he lived. Mr. Bracey was also predeceased by his wife, Joyce Stephenson Bracey and son James F. Bracey III. Mr. Bracey joined Beaver Dam Baptist Church in 1932. He was past Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a past president of Holland Ruritan Club. He was a member of Beaver Dam Eager Beavers Seniors, Woodmen of the World, and the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Mr. Bracey was a retired Realtor and owner of Bracey Realty in Suffolk and farmed in Holland and surrounding counties. Mr. Bracey is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Porter Bracey; three stepdaughters; a sister, Sarah B. Harris of Emporia and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Harrell at Holland-Rideout Funeral Home Chapel, 1001 Armory Drive, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
