Obituary of Edward Owen Bond EDWARD OWEN BOND Virginian Pilot - 02-10-2005 Edward Owen Bond, 65, who served for 13 years as fire chief for the town of Courtland, died Feb. 8, 2005, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was born in Fredericksburg, Va., on Sept. 7, 1939, to the late Edward Cosby and Liola Hawkins Bond. A longtime resident of Courtland, Ed was co-owner of B&B Quality Cleaners and Southside Fire Extinguisher and Equipment Company of Franklin. In September of 1957, he joined the Courtland Fire Department, serving as chief from 1978 to 1991, and remained active up until his death. He was a founder of the Southampton County Regional Fire School and was a charter member of the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad. Ed served as adjunct fire instructor for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and was former secretary of the Virginia State Firefighters Association. He was past president and current treasurer for the Southampton County Fire and Rescue Association. He was a member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Forks of the River and Courtland Ruritan Clubs. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lynda Howell Bond; three daughters, Karen Ann Bond (Stewart Foxworth) of Richmond, Elizabeth Bond Brinster (Mark) of Chesapeake and Suzan Bond Quesenberry (Steve) of Richmond; a brother, Carl A. Bond (Cynthia) of Lynchburg; three grandsons, Brendan James Graff, Cameron Joseph Owen Graff and Colton Matthew Brinster. He was predeceased by an infant son, Edward Owen Bond Jr. and his stepmother, Hattie S. Bond.
