Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, June 16, 1999 Edward Hunter Blythe Sr., 81, died June 14, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 3, 1918, in Southampton County, a son of the late Hunter and Allie Griffin Blythe. Mr. Blythe, an Army veteran of World War II, retired after 40 years of service with Union Camp Corp. where he was a foreman in the paper mill. He was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred Lankford Blythe; a daughter, Sandra B. Duck and her husband, John I., of Franklin; a son, Edward H. Blythe Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of Courtland; a brother, Franklin R. ``Ike'' Blythe of Franklin; three sisters, Katherine B. Parker of Gates, N.C., Allie Mae Blythe of Franklin and Irene B. Bulls of Sedley; four grandchildren, John Kevin Duck of Windsor, Blake Hunter Blythe of Louisville, Ky., Kimberly Ann Duck of Franklin and Brad Edward Blythe of Denver; two great-grandchildren, Justin Hunter Duck and Trenton Kyle Duck, both of Windsor. Mr. Blythe was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters, Melvin, Kelly, D.C., and Clint Blythe, Ruby B. Nelms and Nancy Blythe; and an infant grandson. He was a friend to many. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins and the Rev. John Kelly. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends at the home of Sandra and John I. Duck at 320 Carrie Drive, Franklin, and suggests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1290 Seminole Trail, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22901, or to a favorite charity.
