Mrs. Beaton was a native of Franklin and was the daughter of the late D.C. Gillette Sr. and Minnie Jane Joyner Gillette. Mrs. Beaton was a graduate of Franklin High School and Mary Washington College. An educator, she was a former teacher at Ferrum Junior College and had retired as the home economics teacher for the Franklin city schools. She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church, the Southampton County Historical Society, Rawls Museum of Arts and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Beaton Beale and her husband, John, of Courtland; a sister, Dorothy G. Rose of Virginia Beach; a brother, D.C. Gillette Jr. of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. The graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Edward Johnson. The family will receive friends at her residence on Old Sedley Road, and suggests that memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church, 301 W. First Ave., Franklin, Va. 23851, or to a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
