The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, December 18, 1996 John Etheldred Beale Jr., 75, of the 27000 block of Rose Valley Road died Dec. 16, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Beale was a native of Franklin and was the son of the late John E. and Martha McLane Beale. He was a retired supervisor at Hercules Inc., after 29 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, former chairman of the Southampton County Electoral Board, a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World and a former member of the Forks of the River Ruritan Club and the Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virgie Darden Beale; two daughters, Jane Parker Beale Watson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Rebecca McLane Beale Lowe of Nassau, Bahamas; a son, John E. Beale III of Chesapeake; brother, James Robert Beale of Hampton; six grandchildren, John B. Watson III, Michael Beale Watson, Stephen W. Watson, Frederick E. Lowe II, Todd Alexander Lowe and Angela Mae Beale; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Watson. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand and the Rev. Dr. Ira Hudgins. The family will receive friends at the residence.
