Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - May 1, 1997 Dorothy Gwaltney Beale, 75, died April 29, 1997, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. Etheldred Warren Beale Sr., 76, died April 30, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. Mrs. Beale, a native of Isle of Wight County, attended Madison College and Mary Washington College and then resided in Southampton County for more than 50 years. She was an active member of the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church and a past member of the Courtland Women's Club. She was the daughter of the Jessie Henry Gwaltney and Bettie Nelms Gwaltney and was predeceased by her parents, six brothers and three sisters. Mr. Beale, a native of Southampton County, was a veteran of World War II and was an owner and vice president of H.P. Beale and Sons Inc. He was a member of trustee of the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of Courtland Ruritan Club and a member of the Davis Ridley Hunt Club. He was the son of Hugh Patrick Beale and Roberta Wellons Beale and was predeceased by his parents and two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Beale were married Jan. 30, 1943, and are survived by four children, E. Warren Beale Jr. of Courtland, Anne B. Parker of Franklin, Frank P. Beale of Prince George County and F. McKim Beale of Newport News; and nine grandchildren, Allison Brook Beale, Michael Etheldred Beale, Westbrook Johnson Parker Jr., Morgan Elizabeth Beale, Patrick Gwaltney Beale, Caroline Beale Parker, David Todd Beale, Courtney van der Woude Beale and Marika Nelms Beale. Mrs. Beale is survived by a sister, Eloise Gwaltney Shaw of Norfolk and Mr. Beale is survived by two sisters, Catherine B. Gwaltney and Louise B. Rogers, both of Suffolk; and two brothers, B. Hubert Beale and Fletcher W. Beale, both of Courtland. Services will be held Friday, May 2, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, Sedley, Va., with burial thereafter at Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, with the Revs. James M. Smith and Robert J. Parks Jr. presiding. Visitation will be at the Beale Homeplace, 16411 Ivor Road, Courtland, Va., from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
