Obituary of Mitcheal Keith Barnes MITCHEAL KEITH BARNES Virginian Pilot - 10-02-2004 FRANKLIN - Mitcheal Keith Barnes, 49, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, 2004 at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. A native of Southampton County, Mitcheal was a 1973 graduate of Southampton High School and a 1978 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was a quarterback for the Hokies and a two year varsity baseball player. He was a teacher and coach at Southampton High School for three years prior to joining International Paper Co., where he was manager of the woodyard. He was a member and treasurer of Newsoms Hunt Club and a member of Sunbeam Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Sandra Drake Barnes; his daughter, Jessica Sabra Barnes, and son, Justin Keith Barnes, both of the home; his mother, Edna Goodson Barnes of Courtland; two brothers, Kirby L. Barnes and wife, Linda, of Holland and Kendall L. Barnes and wife Elizabeth, of Sedley; father-in-law, Walter Franklin Drake Sr. and brother-in-law, Walter Franklin Drake, Jr. and wife, Beth, all of Sunbeam; sister-in-law, Debra D. Mullican and husband, Jack, of Savannah, Ga.; paternal aunt, Ellen R. Barnes of Burlington, N.C.; many maternal aunts and uncles and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, O. Gordon Barnes. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Wills Switzer and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vincent's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
