Obituary of Bessie Futrell Barnes BESSIE FUTRELL BARNES Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - March 7, 2001 Bessie Futrell Barnes, 92, entered into her heavenly home March 6, 2001, in the sure and certain belief that she was a child of God who dearly loved her family and church. Born Sept. 21, 1908, in Conway, N.C., she was one of 12 children of the late Cola Godwin and Rosetta Askew Futrell, and widow of Bernard Curtis Barnes. Mrs. Barnes was a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Daisy Ann B. and Nathaniel Wright Bryd Jr. of Franklin, Janice B. and Joseph Edwin Collins, Lillian B. and Thomas Holmes Fowler, Rose B. and Raymond Billy Mitchell, all of Suffolk; sisters, Mattie Ruth Futrell Rockefeller of Virginia Beach, Emma Futrell Buck of Norfolk; brother, Howard Glenn Futrell of Conway, N.C.; grandchildren, Belinda Wyatt, Gloria Worrell, both of Franklin, Carroll Fowler, Joanne Bangley, Tommy Fowler, Kevin Bullock, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Terri Lynn Thorne, Sherry Huffman, Mark and Brian Fowler, Justin Parrish, Blake Bullock, Hannah Bullock; great-great-grandchildren, Kayla Thorne, Alex Thorne, Clint Huffman; and a dear, loving friend for many years, Vonnie Davis. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson and the Rev. Steve Summers with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
