Baker CAPRON - Lucy Britt Baker, a native of Boykins, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Roland Truitt Baker, daughter of the late William Herbert and Mary Stephenson Britt and sister of the late Jessie B. Britt. She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary and retired after teaching school for 36 years. She taught at Southampton High School, Suffolk High School and several schools in Southampton County, namely Capron, Drewryville and Newsoms. She was a member of Capron Baptist Church, a former member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a life member of the Virginia Education Association. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Augusta Baker of Capron and Grace B. Moore of Emporia, several cousins and good friends, Louise and Harry Barrett and their family. A service will be conducted at the Capron Cemetery at 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Keith Robinson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, and suggests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
