Baker Jr., 68, died July 25, 2005, at his residence. A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Bessie Grissom Baker and the late Charles Clifton Baker Sr. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and attended Wake Forest University. C.C. was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and a retired postmaster of the Courtland Post Office. He was a member and past member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge No. 85 AF&AM, a former member of the Meherrin Coin Club and a member of the Nottaway Investment Club. He was a former National Guardsman, a former member of the Courtland Ruritan Club and former treasurer and vice-president of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department. C.C. was a former insurance agent for American General Life and a former greeter at the Franklin Wal-Mart. He loved fishing and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty Baugham Baker; a daughter, Betsy B. Finley and husband Scott of Wake Forest, N.C.; a son, Charles C. "Chuck" Baker III; a sister, Lilly Gray B. Ketner of Salisbury, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Katie Anne Finley and Duncan Scott Finley. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Kay Barstow Gentry and the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. Burial with Masonic rites, will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggest memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
