Annie Margaret ''Margie'' Piland Babb, 72, died March 16, 1998, in Nansemond Pointe Healthcare. 
She was a native of Chowan County, N.C., and was the widow of James Edward Babb. Mrs. Babb was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Piland Sr. and Maggie Harris Piland. 
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Babb Harrell; a son, John E. Babb of Suffolk; grandchildren, Sharon H. Williams of Rodanthe, N.C., Roberta H. Brown of Suffolk and Robert R. Harrell Jr. of Suffolk; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Tew of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Jason Thomas of Manteo, N.C., and Elizabeth Peele of Suffolk. 
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. James W. Draper. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hill Funeral Home and other times at 120 Grove Ave.
