James McKaig Ayers, 55, of 200 S. High St., died March 24, 1993, in a Norfolk hospital. 

Mr. Ayers was born in Normandy, Tenn., and was a senior engineer with Union Camp Corp. He was an Army veteran and a 1961 graduate of Vanderbilt University. He attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. 

Survivors include his wife, Jean D.B. Ayers; one daughter, Lee Catherine Ayers Falcone of Portsmouth; one son, Thomas Clark Ayers of Franklin; his mother, Ova Lee Sharrock Ayers of Franklin; and two stepdaughters, Michelle B. Butt of Virginia Beach and Mary-Margaret Bittle of Richmond. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Edmund Pickup and the Rev. Webster M. Maughan. Wright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. 

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o of Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
