Obituary of George Thomas Alphin Sr. GEORGE THOMAS ALPHIN SR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - March 31, 1997 George Thomas Alphin Sr., 64, of the first block of E. Windsor Blvd., died March 29, 1997, in his residence. A native of Nansemond County, Va., he was the founder and owner of Walters Grain and Supply Company and Commonwealth Gin Inc., both in Windsor, and Commonwealth/Southampton Gin Inc. of Franklin, and was the former owner of Alphin Farm Supply in Windsor. He was a member and deacon of Windsor Congregational Christian Church and a former member of Windsor Ruritan Club. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Betty J. Alphin; two sons and daughters-in-law, George Thomas Alphin Jr. and Pamela B. Alphin, and Leonard B. Alphin and Jane A. Alphin, all of Zuni; three sisters, Edith A. Anderson of Suffolk, Alene A. Cox of Smithfield and Antionette A. Willis of Windsor; three brothers, John B. Alphin and Robert O. Alphin, both of Zuni, and William M. Alphin of Culpeper, Va.; two granddaughters, Kerri J. Alphin and Amber L. Alphin, and two grandsons, Christopher T. Alphin and L. Bruce Alphin Jr., all of Zuni; and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Edith Hill Alphin and Leonard Harrell Alphin. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Windsor Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Basil L. Ballard and the Rev. Ruffin Alphin. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery . Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, and other times in the residence.
